Prevention begins at home with parents modeling good behavior around substances. On Senior Community Service Day, members of the Class of 2022 at Hingham High School wrote and starred in two informational videos on prevention. The message in both is clear: parents play an important role in underage substance use.

 

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey conducted by the Hingham Public Schools in 2019, over half of Hingham students said that they had consumed their first drink of alcohol by the age of 16, and 25% of students had consumed their first drink by the age of 14. Research shows that the earlier a young person starts using substances the more likely they are to develop an addiction..
